Don’t Forget to Stand Up Tall and Breathe!

Proper structure of the thoracic spine (middle back) ensures optimal lung function!

Don’t Be a “Hunchback”

Hyperkyphosis is described as an excessive curvature of the middle back and is commonly referred to as “hunchback.” While it can affect people of any age, it affects 20–40% of the elderly population.

While hyperkyphosis can be easily visualized just by looking at someone’s posture, its effects go far beyond aesthetics.

It has been associated with an increased risk of falling, pulmonary compromise, depression, reduced motivation, muscle impairment, and overall greater disability.

People with hyperkyphosis are also at greater risk of breathing issues that require hospitalization!

The Solution is in the Spine

Chiropractic care can be crucial to the quality of life in individuals with hyperkyphosis because chiropractic seeks to improve the structure of the spine and thus affects the function of the body.

This knowledge was applied in a case series published earlier this year, which described three individuals with hyperkyphosis and no symptoms!

Increased Quality of Life

After 10 weeks of chiropractic care, all three individuals reported an increase in their quality of life and their ability to do the things that they love.

Two of the three experienced increased lung volume! (The funny thing is that the third didn’t because he had pneumonia. Let’s hope a follow-up study occurs when he’s recovered!)

Chiropractic care is for the young, the elderly, the sick, and the healthy.

No matter who you are, chiropractic improves your quality of life!
