Chronic knee pain is reportedly affecting 25% of the American population. In other words, 1 in every 4 people is experiencing some type of knee pain! Knee issues are now the leading cause of disability in people over the age of 50. Chronic knee pain is defined as long-term pain, swelling, or sensitivity in one or both knees. Each person’s experience with chronic knee pain will be different, but what causes this ongoing knee pain?

Common causes of knee conditions are as follows:

  • Carrying extra weight (Every pound overweight = 4 pounds of stress on the knee joint)
  • Overuse of the joint
  • Repetitive stress injuries
  • Postural imbalances
  • Lumbar spine compression
  • Metabolic Conditions
  • Failed surgery

Now that we know what causes knee pain, what are some of the symptoms that someone may experience when dealing with this issue?

  • Popping/cracking
  • Swelling after activity
  • Joint pain after activity
  • Numbness/Tingling
  • Chronic muscle tightness
  • Radiating pain
  • Decreased joint space
  • Cartilage Damage

Do you or someone you know deal with progressive knee pain that is getting to the point of:

  • Relying on a cane or a wheelchair to get around
  • Inability to exercise due to pain
  • Giving up hobbies to avoid additional knee pain
  • Avoiding places with stairs
  • Unable to play with kids/grandkids because of difficulty getting up and down on their level
  • Afraid that the only option to help is knee replacement surgery

Luckily, there is still hope for dealing with this knee pain without relying on drugs, injections, or surgery! Here at Synapse Chiropractic, we use a three-pronged approach to helping with your knee pain. This program includes in-office treatment, at-home therapy, and a nutritional component. This program has a high success rate because we qualify each person before starting the program. We use the consultation process, exams, and x-rays to determine the severity of one’s knee issues to determine if someone can benefit from our program! If someone qualifies for the full program, our individual pieces work together to help them achieve their health goals!

The in-office treatment includes chiropractic care to solve any postural and muscle imbalances. It also includes our “Knee-on-Trac” which is a traction machine that helps open the knee joint space by up to 60% to take pressure off the joint.

The at-home therapy includes two pieces of equipment. The first piece of equipment is Anodyne Red Light Therapy. The benefits of anodyne include increased local blood circulation to the knee, increased oxygen nutrients, and decreased ischemic response (vasodilation). The second therapy is an electrotherapy called the Rebuilder. The Rebuilder decreases edema and swelling of the knee, enhances muscle hypertrophy, and decreases pain.

The nutritional kit that someone receives with this program includes three supplements; Inflamm-x, Vasopro, and Artho-EZ. Inflamm-x is used daily to decrease the amount of inflammation in the joints. Vasopro is a supplement used in addition to the therapy equipment to increase vasodilation to allow for more joint nutrition. Finally, the Artho-EZ is a topical cream that can be applied directly to the knee to help soothe knee pain.
